Windows Workflow 3.0 and Windows Workflow 3.5 Tabs Missing from Visual Studio 2008 Toolbox

The solution to this issue is very simple. I have based the details on  Moggoly’s excellent Post

Firstly,  you will need to  show hidden files in what every version of Windows you using to host Visual Studio 2008. In the case of Windows 7 or Windows 2008R2: just click on the Organize button in any folder, and then select “Folder and Search Options” from the menu.  Then go to the “View” tab and select “Show hidden files, folders, and drives”.

Next,  you need to do is navigate to the one directories shown below depending which o/s you are using:

  • vista or win2008 or win 7
    • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0
  • winXP
    • C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0

In either case you will need to delete the hidden files related to the toolbox: toolbox.tbd and toolboxIndex.tbd

Finally, restart VS 2008 and then breath a sigh of relief as all the missing “Windows Workflow 3.x” tabs are restored and with them the missing activities/items.

As a contract SharePoint Developer I need to consider a number of factors when choosing a laptop and having recently gone through this process I thought it might be worth highlighting them in a article :

Http Error 401 When I try to access a newly created SharePoint Site

I am a big fan of Host Headers when creating multiple SharePoint sites accessible via the same IP address (port 80). Each SharePoint site must not only be provisioned within the scope of a web app but also created within the scope of a Site Collection. The Site Collection is a container for a toplevel site and a optionally heirarchy of child sites. So in the case of simple farm setup I have created a single Site Collection using the Team Site Directory enterprise template. My Sites and ShareServices1 (SSP) that were all created using host headers on port 80 and so exist entirely within its scope. Now back to my problem. …..
